Sundays are becoming our days for hiking. Nothing too strenuous, but something for us to do in the beauty that surrounds us. It's always exciting and this trip proved just that, with a scattering of cow patties on our path. I think there were enough jokes and crass remarks about the patties to possibly offend the lovely cows, but we had a good time. Next Sunday, hopefully a hike that is patty free!

All I need is something simple. Like these apples with cheddar and gorgonzola. And these olives with crostini on the side. Plus, a glass of merlot. Somtimes, that's all I need. So this evening, hubby made this when I was craving "oh, something simple." It was so delicious. So satisfying. Felt a bit regal with a touch of flair or is it flare?! Well, whatever it is, I loved it.

there is a quiet moment that this little guy will find. When this photo was taken, he was surrounded with bags of things to give away, things to throw away, and just random items strewn about. Poor guy. He was surrounded with our clutter and I felt bad about it. But I have finally asked for help...actually, it wasn't just an "ask" more of a PLEASE?!! So, hubby is helping....

But why is this sadness here? What is this about? I smudged our home off with some beautiful white sage. And the sadness is still here. For a moment I thought maybe I'm pregnant, but no, I'm not. The sadness is still here. It might be the weather, but it's not too bad out. It might be the fact that I don't want to finish school right now...I want to procrastinate and be here writing all my complaints about my life. But I know it's time for me to finish.... So I don't know what it is...but I feel like crying. And even with convincing hubby to take me to our favorite little cafe where I had my favorite hot Mexican chocolate, I still feel blue. I even worked out this morning?!! Not sure what it is, but maybe I just need to feel it. To feel this sadness to the core of my being. Because I do feel it.

Thanks for being here, friends. I'm hoping to be out of this funk soon.

It begins...no. It has BEGUN! And I'm excited. New things to accomplish, old goals to let go of. Final semester of grad studies to begin soon...so many things. And I continue to ponder over these last photos of 2009...I'll be sharing more shortly. But I do hope you had a wonderful Christmas. This wee family over here did spend Christmas Ramirez style. Even got a Wii injury, can you believe it?

Do I have any resolutions you ask? Well, to just keep going through another year with gratitude. And to hopefully let go of what I no longer need both emotionally and through material goods. Because it feels good to let it go. I just have to keep reminding myself of that...

There are some days when all I want to eat is bread. And thank goodness I have a bread maker, because this recipe is certainly one that is worth every ounce of waiting for. It's healthy too. The boys love homemade bread, especially when its fresh out of the oven. A slice with some butter...And the whole house smells like a loaf is just floatin' mid air! Yes, I say...to special winter wheat bread. This was my lunch today and it consisted of slices of organic honey roasted turkey, organic red leaf butter lettuce, organic roma tomato, and some german mustard! Oh, and some pickle slices! So yummy! I have a feeling I'll be making a ton of bread during winter break..want some?

I opened the mail today and in it was a letter from a dear and old friend. One that I haven't been in contact with for quite some time. Our lives have evolved in so many ways and I am so thankful to know that she is still there, curious about my world, and willing to share and bare her heart with me. Even though we are miles apart with oceans between us, I hold her dearly. There are many, many things to share dear friend....a letter will be written and sent to you shortly.

Guess what? We have a new camera!!! And i'm loving it and taking photos and more photos...some of these are from this past weekend...we were up in the mountains in a small town called Gold Hill. This photo we took of little guy inside a kiva...it was beautiful.

Today!!!! Hello there. It has been quite a while, I must say. And thank you for checking up on me...I'm doing well.
I've been busy with pretty much LIFE. But I thought I'd let you know that all is well. I think Summer has begun in these parts of Colorado, yet it has been raining a whole heck of a lot. The sun has peaked out for a mere few hours today with more showers expected. Everything is so lush, it's beautiful. Hopefully, all this moisture will help the garden!

That's right, a garden....
We have started a wee veggie garden: tomatoes, jalepenos, sweet peppers, and bell peppers. Little man was so excited to help in the action. So we did. We just purchased some starter plants and now they are on their way. I was looking for the perfect pots and soil..well, lo and behold, a local radio station here in Boulder, KGNU, was having a plant sale. Scored on two HUGE bags of compost and pots!!! Woo! So, now we are waiting patiently...I'll have to take some photos.

I'm also dancing once again...I'm back to Danza Azteca. I've been practicing with this grupo and feel like I've walked into someone's family. It it such a joy and I look forward to growing with the group.

In other news, I begin my training tomorrow for my internship..working with the Veterans at the local Vet Center. I'm excited, nervous, and above all, ready. I'll have a full year with 700 hours to complete...woo, that's alot! But I'm looking forward to it. Other than that, been outside a bunch, hiking and biking. Well, that's all for now....hope you too are doing well!

Well, many a things have been happening around these parts. First of all, I'm in the process of applying for several internships for my final year as I pursue my MA in Somatic Counseling Psychology. Second, I just finished the 13th Annual Somatic Arts Concert where I presented two works. One featured this song. It was quite extrordinary finding an arranger for this tune especially after one quit, and getting members of this choir to sing it. Well, with 6 dancers on stage in dresses of every color, mine a teal blue, we did it! In matter of fact, the song was sung by hubby while he played acoutic guitar. I'm so proud!

On top of all that beauty, I collaborated with two other women in a work that featured this artist. It was quite an emotional process, a creative process of balancing the acculturated and the reptilian. The part of each and every one of us that can just snap at any moment....well, it was quite emotional, quite tiring. Yet with it all, it was stunning and beautiful. I think I shocked myself most of all just exposing that particular side of myself to an audience. It was rough, yet in a soothing way. Anyways, we are awaiting the video of the production...I'm nervous to watch it.

Most recently, I auditioned for this wonderful choreographer. Guess what, I GOT IN!!! There were over 60 dancers and only 25 to 30 were chosen. I just received the message today that I'm an in and it's pretty exciting. The work that you just saw is the one that I will be performing in. This is not the first time I have worked with this choreographer, it occurred in 1998, here. Anyways, I'm just feeling so inspired creatively and being chosen for this work inspires not only who I am as an artist, but as a breathing somebody on this planet.

With all of that, hubby and son are beautiful and well. It's almost Valentine's and I'm about to make some of these. I'm excited and hungry to eat them!!! Well, lovelies, hope all is well with you and may your creative juices continue to flow....

Hello everyone. So, the snow here is on and off. It's sunny and it makes everything glisten a bit. I'm enjoying my time with little man who's not so little anymore. He's more than excited about Santa and tomorrow he's singing in the choir here. We've been baking, eating, and decorating Christmas cookies and preparing for the feast that will occur on Christmas Day. I'm knitting away during my spare moments, a sweater for me, and mostly enjoying the coziness of the home we are staying in for a few more days. I'm loving the holiday season, the lights, visits from friends and family, and most of all, the time to be at peace. Have a beautiful Christmas! Feliz Navidad!

Making cookies, decorating the tree, sledding, etc. etc. Anyways, we feel that we are on bit of a vacation right now. We are housesitting for some dear friends of ours and their kitties. Argh?! Yes, that's what I'm saying. There's nothing like presentations and final papers due the last week of school. So many things to hand in and to keep track of. Sometimes I can still feel my glasses on at night while I'm sleeping. That tells you how much I'm studying, typing, and reading with these things on. Anyways, I'm still here and soon this weight of studying will be over: Friday is the day. Tomorrow is my final day and Friday, let's celebrate! I'll tell you why "One Fine Day" speaks to me...because, for me, it's bridging the gap between the known and the unknown. It describes the human experience, the dying, the suffering that we all experience. Yes, these experiences may be completely different from individual to individual, but this song highlights what I think is part of the human experience. We all want to know why we are here. We all want to know why we feel so alone even among those closest to us. This part of us that is simply an extension of our true nature is highlighted in this song. "I stand in liquid light- like ev'ryone I built my life with rhymes- to carry on." There are many instances of metaphor in this song and I don't want to share too much of my personal self here. I think we are looking for an answer to the experience of suffering and I feel that "One Fine Day" highlights that question. Simply put, I also feel that this song describes a moment of dying and the moments before we bridge with our eternal Selves. Anyways, I hope that helps you "woman" and I'm surprised that you live inside Pikes Peak. What made you decide to move?

This song has been playing over and over in my head, in my heart. I feel that it speaks to what's going on and I have to admit, it represents much of what is happening in my internal state. We saw David Byrne in concert not too long ago...I realized that I didn't tell you much about it. I was in an ecstatic state...I couldn't sit down, I couldn't stop moving. He speaks to so much that is a part of our lives and he isn't afraid to share his personal self in front of hundreds. What made this such a memorable night, was the fact that I was not just witnessing a musician and his band in concert....I was witnessing a performance...art on stage. And yes, there were dancers. It was incredible. I felt like I was witnessing a process that is his own and he OWNED it. When I hear David Byrne, movement comes to mind. I see patterns of movement with several on stage. I can't help it. If you haven't heard any of his music, well, you should take a listen. Look him up. He's not your average musician and his odd quirkiness is something that is quite appealing to me. He rides a bike to his own performances. A bike. How great is that? Anyways, I want you to listen to this song One Fine Day and I hope that you'll be moved by it as much as I am.

In our lifetime, we are seeing the beginning of change.
The beginning of something so much greater than who and what we are.
We have only begun this journey.
As a woman of color, I am proud to share my voice, to help spread awareness in regards to the gaps of our mindless awareness.
There is a part of me that feels that my tasks at hand as a Mother, a Wife, an emerging Therapist, and as a human being are going to undergo life changing, rather life-altering events.
It is time for us to let go of this individual self.
It is time for us to emerge united within our families, within our cities, within our planet.
We are slowly getting back to who we are.
May we all stand strong through these troubled times and continue to work as a united whole.

Good, I hope. Is Fall in the air where you are? If you're in Texas, probably not. Fall season has officially hit here in Colorado. The leaves are turning their bright hues...yellows, reds, and browns. It's rather beautiful. The light reflects differently on everything and presents that ever present feeling of "something is about to happen." I love it! Nowadays, I am using my mountain bike to get around. Since Grad studies has begun once again, I find it the most convenient way to get from my Grad assistant position on one campus to then attend my courses on another. Boulder is quite the biker-friendly place and I love it when big ol' trucks put it in reverse when they have crossed the bike or cross-walk. I'm not sure if that would happen in Texas. It seems that I notice a bit of everything too. The sidewalks and gravel streets look so different when I'm biking vs. when we are in our vehicle. It's beautiful, really. I will miss my bike rides when the snow arrives, I can definately say that. Just sending everyone Happy Fall thoughts....

Alrighty internets...you are wanting a recipe of this fine and tasty dessert. Well, here goes. It's easy-peasy and this was our 4th of July dessert. It's pretty healthy too. Just make sure that if you can't find Rome or Stayman apples, well, make sure you ask for something that isn't too sweet..I used Fuji apples here. Also, I used cranberry fruit juice concentrate....next time, I would like to try Agave or Honey. Let me know if you try this deliciousness...would love to hear if you enjoyed it as much as we did! Oh and yes, we had a bit of frozen vanilla yogurt with it..it was yummy! Enjoy!

1 cup of rolled oats, preferably organic
1 cup of fresh cranberries, rinsed
1/4 cup maple syrup
1/4 cup fruit juice concentrate, barley malt syrup, or honey
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
4 large apples, such as Rome or Stayman,

peeled, cored, and quartered
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Vanilla nonfat frozen yogurt or soy-based equivalent (optional)

Heat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place the oats and cranberries in a food processor or blender and process in short spurts to pulverize. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.
In saucepan, combine your choice of one of the following, barley-malt syrup, fruit juice concentrate, or honey (again, here I used the fruit juice concentrate), along with the maple syrup and vanilla. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-high heat and pour over oat-cranberry mixture. Stir well, working the syrup into the oats with your hands.
Put the apples in a deep baking dish and in a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle, over the apples and then cover with oat/cranberry mixture.
Put your beauties in the oven and bake until the oats turn light brown for 20 minutes. Make sure you can pierce the apples fully and easily. If the oats brown too quickly, get some foil and cover the dish...just make sure to lower the heat to 325 degrees if this happens to you. Continue baking until the apples are tender.
Serve with vanilla yogurt, ice-cream, or a soy equivalent..most importantly, ENJOY AND SHARE WITH YOUR LOVIES!!!

At this moment during the conference, Solan had the great opportunity to stuff his own Boozle Bear. The Hydrocephalus Association has come up with these beautiful creatures as an educational tool for children and grown-ups to gain awareness about Hydrocephalus. Boozle has a shunt and it can be easily removed and ready for surgical implantation...on the bear, of course! It's wonderful!! Solan lovingly calls him Goo-Goo bear and talks about Hydrocephalus to just about everyone. It's quite surprising. Today, we saw Dr. Handler, our neurosurgeon, for his yearly checkup...of course, Goo-Goo bear was with us and he was quite excited to talk about Goo-Goo's shunt. Dr. Handler was amused especially when Solan mentioned the lateral ventricles. :) As far as the checkup, well, all is wonderful in the land of his brain! We are needing to get some CT scans of his brain in the next couple of weeks, but thank goodness for new technology because he won't have to go under!! Woo-hoo! Thanks Boozle bear, we love you!!

You know, I don't know if you know this or not, but my little angel has Hydrocephalus. Do you know what it is? Well, we had the wonderful opportunity to be part of the Hydrocephalus Association Conference in Park City, Utah. It was completely moving. Emotionally exhausting and powerful to say the least. There were so many parents that have children with Hydro, individuals both young and old, and also just advocates that care for this population. I am amazed how beautiful every individual with Hydro is...as if they are angels walking on this earth. Some well, it's obvious that they have Hydro. Others, like my little guy, not so obvious. But as I continued to inform myself about the latest in Hydrocephalus, I began to realize that my life has been in a bit of flux because of him and his Hydro. I haven't settled in my emotions as a concerned parent. I haven't let myself feel the pain of knowing that my little guy will grow with this condition for the rest of his life. I haven't come to terms with the fact that there is always a risk of shunt failure and infection. So, this weekend was the opportunity for all of it, literally, all of it, to hit me. He may not have obvious signs of having Hydrocephalus, but as we inch closer and closer to entering the public school system, I am reminded that there may be cognitive issues and concerns. In matter of fact, we found out that Hydro kids are children easy to get upset and overly emotional/frustrated about the little things in life. And yes, he does..most certainly he becomes that little guy that we can't console. We found out that yes, it may take time for him to process certain information like cleaning his room. For instance, telling him over and over to pick things up...sounding like a broken record and getting anxious, stressed, and frustrated about his lack of responsibility, etc. Well, it all makes sense...it's my child's Hydrocephalus. He's not ignoring us, he's trying to process information. And it takes a while, most definately. We found out that there is a strong possibility in regards to how he isolates himself...this happens during school and at home and its a part of the Hydrocephalus. His isolation of himself is again, a processing issue. He may have difficulty sticking with a group of kiddos who are not only his age, but kiddos who are running around and doing all those kiddo things at such a fast, kiddo pace. He has to slow down, to catch his breath, more like catch up his mind and body with what is happening. Again, it's the Hydrocephalus. So as I take all this in, I breathe a bit deeper and take a moment to be thankful for all that he is. Hopefully, you'll remind me too. My little angel is more than you know, in matter of fact, he's more than what I know. He will grow and become the child, teen, and adult with Hydrocephalus. He isn't Hydrocephalus, but simply a wonderful bright star in my daily life. I would have it no other way. Come visit some more photos here....

So, my left scapula is on fire. It hurts terribly. I am having a difficult time moving my neck, sneezing, and just standing. I think I must have slept wrong..but not sure. My son is wanting to play, but it just hurts too much. I can tell the muscles are getting warmer/loosening, but it still hurts. It feels like a rock to be honest and even after some Reiki and a little ice..it hurttttttttssssssss!!! Help..........

On crafty fronts, I made him this....I love it and he does too. But today is Monday and I have to tell you that right now, the house is quiet. No one is home. I woke up to send my little man off to Preschool and can you believe it, I went back to bed. Oh, it was wonderful! I am right in the middle of reading The Namesake and am enjoying in thoroughly. I do plan on crafting a bit, maybe even doing some outside since it's so beautiful. The house is a bit messy right now..clothes need to be folded, a few dishes to be done, but instead, I have to admit, I'm going to do none of it..at least none at this moment. I am enjoying this moment and hope that you are too...

Yep, I'm doing sooooo much. Mostly because the semester is winding down...my first year of Grad studies is almost over and all I have to say is hoooooooooooo-weeeeeeee! Seriously. I still have 1 paper and 3 presentations, along with 1 Warrior's Exam, which is basically a final testing of my therapeutic skills. So, alot is happening folks, but I am still getting in the Spring weather, hiking over here, and over here. And spending time with new friends and my lovies. It's our wedding anniversary weekend, 5 years...more details on the way about that. One thing I can tell you is that we are gonna go see these wonders and go for a day date over here. Happy weekend everyone!

Solan was pretty interested in my painting and asked me what is was for. I told him that it was expressing my feelings and this morning this is what he did.

So, this is what I've been doing since about 7 am this morning. Writing papers. I have 3 due next week, mostly reflection papers that require a bit of academic flair. Nothing too difficult, but stuff that I find absolutely amazing. Part of this process within my program at Naropa, is about deepening. Deepening into myself in ways that are bridging my internal world with my external self. Ways that allow me to process and deal with my sH*&. It's not a pretty picture at times and often, it is emotionally exhausting. Since the program is geared to the emerging Psychotherapist, the common thread is that in order to be a "safe container" for clients, you must have met and dealt with your issues to some degree. Again folks, not a pretty picture. Especially when there are 16 other men and women within my program. Personalities get in the way, comments are taken the wrong way, etc. etc. So it's like a relationship..where you have to show up and be there. To be present with whatever is in front of you, no matter how ugly. It's difficult, but I feel that I'm starting to finally to come to an edge where I can only deepen further by truly looking at what is happening, moment to moment. This endless pattern of thread...

One particular course that does this is called Authentic Movement. I have finally found the bridge! The bridge that resonates with my teachings of Yoga and meditation, with movement. Unconcious. Breathing. Emotional waves that take over. It's nothing like sitting on a cushion and meditating, yet is carries similarities in looking at thoughts that jump and move. It is about returning to breath. Returning to simplicity in being. As a mover, you are witnessed by another. With eyes closed, you let movement arise and take place. It's a great place for choreographers yet I think it takes some of the "moment" out of the movement if it's going to be used in a choreographed work. What I have found is that it allows me to deepen unconsciously. Ultimately, it's unconscious movement. No judgments from either mover or witness. One particular book called Arching Backward by Janet Adler is about her "awakening." It's about her entire being experiencing mystical initiation into Awareness. It's a pretty remarkable book and I couldn't put this one down. I have noticed that her words touch me in the way that my vivid dreams do. Shamanistic in nature. Earthly wisdom. I see past lives, feel myself floating about my physical body and touch down with a wiser sense of my being...this is how her book has touched my thoughts.

I feel that I haven't let alot of you in on what is really going on with me nowadays. So, now you know. There are many deeper things stirring in me that are leading me to a realization of who I am. Yoga has done this, continues to do so. But now, movement is finally answering deep questions for me. I am deeply grateful for this process.

I haven't been on a Spring Break vacation since I was an undergrad and that was around 1999. So, here I am mid-week of my "break" and I'm finally just getting a feeling that yes, this is a break. Starting old unfinished craft projects and spending some time with new friends. I'm loving these days of almost 70 degree weather and we're expecting snow storms soon..yuck. I'm tired of the snow!!! I finally finished my papers, folks. And man, it was hard. But, it's done and I think I did a pretty good job. Today, we will probably do a little bit of everything, make some bread, adventures outside, and I'm definately in the mood to craft. I know exactly what I am going to post. You know, words that arrive from thoughts about something, anything, really. And sometimes it works out great and others, well, it's a medium range of okayness. Some posts have pics of my life, of my going-ons, and other posts, well, they are just words...like these. So what I'm going to type, is about how I'm feeling, at this very moment. Get ready, here it comes:

I feel like my heart is floating somewhere deep in my body and not where it normally is. Maybe it's from a day of meditating with full awareness of my breath, with thoughts running around like animals looking for a home. Or maybe it's because I was so moved by my Prenatal Yoga class and the Mamas in it. Oh the mamas, how I love them so and every time I begin my class, I feel so at home, at peace, with my mamahood. Maybe it's the feeling of spring in the air that leaves my heart floating somewhere outside my body. Even as graceful chunks of snow landed on my hands today, I can feel spring. Maybe my heart is a flutter because I am so moved while watching dear hubby sleep peacefully on the couch, from a long day at work, and perplexed by the changes in our lives. Maybe it's because my moon cycle is in full swing and I'm sitting with the fact that right now, I'm all woman.

Whatever it is, I'm feeling it. Like nothing else. Something pulling at my heart, my thoughts, and all I can think of is how my heart has a mind...sitting there in stillness, in awe of the rawness of life, facing fear like a warrior, and knowing that this life of mine is a journey to the depths of who I am.

So, I have to tell you, that right now, I feel so torn inside. My little one, who I think is growing and maturing like the little beautiful boy he is, has been somewhat deemed as "unsure." Let me explain...

We are trying to reserve a spot for him in a nearby Waldorf school, a very established school mind you, for Kinder next year. I have been a stay at home Mama for almost all of his 4 years..actually, for all of them!!

But when he was about 11 months, he had a terrible fall on a water glass that punctured his scalp and brain. Rushed to the emergency room at 5am of my husband's 30 birthday, they removed the glass and called a neurologist in. She arrived with news that he was fine, except for two things: one, that there was a sliver of bone embedded in his brain and two, he has/had Hydrocephalus, or "water on the brain." Now, this Hydrocephalus is not uncommon, it's actually running around in all of its ugliness in many children from birth to adolescents. And my little boy never had the physical signs of it since he is such a large kiddo. So, after an initial surgery of removing the embedded bone, a shunt device was placed.

Now, at the time, I was in shock, panic, depression, and clearly not myself, but the developmental milestones that he was not making, all of a sudden, appeared overnight. As if an angel arrived and began the process of rebuilding, redoing, and readusting my little boys life. So from no crawling to crawling, from no words to words, and from no standing to standing..all in less than 2 months! His fall was a God send and I still thank him daily for that, for that awful, blood everywhere, fall.

But, now, we are noticing awkwardness...physical awkwardness..in how he runs, in how he has difficulty doing a few finer motor details. And I tell myself, he's 4, he's just FOUR! Our neurologist told us there may be a few things that show up in his life, learning difficulties and what have you, for he'll have the shunt for the rest of his life. But what I thought was "normal" is not according to the preschool he attends and the Waldorf school for his future. His socialization skills aren't up to par, according to the teacher elites..he doesn't sit still for extended periods, wants to run around, etc. And we don't have a TV for God's sake, never have!! (I'm sorry for ranting and ramblin', but I need some one to hear me!!)

So, I'm feeling a bit down...like my son now has a question mark over his head. And I have never, never in my life, just wanted to run away from it all. Even if just for a moment, to be with God, in complete silence to have a glimmer or an answer if all is "okay."

But I'm here, keepin' on...and I want all of you to know that my son is no question mark. He is mine, he is beautiful, and I'll do what it takes to make sure that he is never "deemed" as unfit....
